The new year is here! Now is the time to dust off that library card and visit the Oxford Memorial Library. If you do not have a library card stop by and see us. It is free to sign up. All we will need is a valid photo ID and a short application completed to get you ready to check out books.We have many great books, magazines, newspapers, videos, DVDs, and reference materials for your enjoyment and information. Internet access is also available for any patron age 10 and up on one of our 3 public computers. You will need a valid and fine free library card and complete a short orientation application to use the internet services.We also have great meeting spaces to accomodate almost any size group. Call the library at 843-6146 or stop by the front desk to pick up an application for room use. All applications MUST be pre-approved by the Library Director prior to use.

Please be sure to encourage your child to not only read for school, but to take time each day and read for pleasure. In addition to great books, reading can include a newspaper, magazine, or graphic novel. Maybe together you and your child can read a book that inspired a movie. Then watch the movie and compare it to the book. The result may surprise you.

Catch A Dragon By The Tale Family Story Time

Diesel Dan Wilcox returns on Thursday March 29th at 7pm with a very special storytime. This storytime will celebrate Chinese New Year: The Year of the Dragon. Dan will share stories and poems featuring dragons. Come and join the fun and adventure. Be sure to bring your imagination! For more information on this and other great programs at the library call us at 843-6146.

In keeping with the dragon theme we have 2 other exciting dragon programs planned to entertain you, and a special program from Suzanne Bloom.
    First: Join us on Wednesday April 11th at 6:30pm in the Community/ Youth Services Room of the library for the movie, How To Train Your Dragon. This is a PG rated, 98 minute, 2010 animated film about a hapless young Viking who aspires to hunt dragons becomes the unlikely friend of a young dragon himself, and learns there may be more to the creatures than he assumed.
    Next: Take a break from the dragons and take time to Wish On A Star with Suzanne Bloom on Saturday April 14th in the Community/ Youth Services Room of the library.
    Finally: Bring the whole family to the library's Community/ Youth Services Room on Thursday April 19th at 7pm for a special evening with a Knight in Shining Armor. Sir William McManus will entertain us with tales of knights and medieval times. Everyone will have an opportunity to see and touch the armor of a knight, complete with chain mail. It has been several years since Sir William has visited the Oxford library and you will not want to miss it.

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with a "Trip to the Emerald Isle" at the library

The Oxford Memorial Library is pleased to host two special programs on Ireland presented by Dan Rickard. The first program will take place on Wednesday March 7th at 7:00pm in the community room. The second program will take place on Saturday March 24th at 2:00pm in the community room. Travel to the Emerald Isle in your imagination as Dan shares with you movies and stories about the trip he and his wife took to this beautiful country. If you have ever had a curiosity about the castles, or culture of Ireland you will not want to miss this program.

Upcoming Programs

Be sure and watch for the return of a very special story time. Perhaps it will be in March? Keep checking back here for updates. You won't want to miss it. Are you curious yet? Well, here it is... Diesel Dan is returning to the Oxford Memorial Library and bringing with him his ever popular Dragon program. This is a great way to celebrate the Chinese New Year, The Year of the Dragon. This promises to be a fun evening for the entire family. Don't miss it!

How are you doing with your New Year's Resolutions? Did you resolve to get more exercise? Maybe tone up or lose weight? Watch for more information on how you can participate in an informal exercise program at the library in our new community room a couple of evenings a week.

Saturday April 7th at 11:00am there will be a special Easter Craft Day at the library for kids of all ages.


Then, on Thursday April 19th at 7:00pm the Oxford Memorial Library is please to welcome back William McManus, a.k.a. William the Crusader, Knight in Shining Armor. This is a fantastic program for all ages. You will see a real knight in full armor. This is a very hands-on program. You will get to see and feel armor, chain mail, and weaponry from that period. William is VERY knowledgeable about everything regarding being a knight. In the past program he would choose a child to dress in full armor; we have not heard whether or not he will do that again this time (we are hoping). This is a program not to be missed.

Suzanne Bloom will present a really special fun-filled program and workshop, Wish On A Star, on Saturday April 21st at 10:00am.

Pajama Party Story Time

The Oxford Memorial Library has a really fun-filled Pajama Party Story Time planned for Thursday February 23rd at 7:00pm. Wear your jammies and a nice warm robe and be sure to bring your favorite teddy or stuffed critter. We will have lots of fun-filled "bedtime" stories and activities plus a "bedtime snack".There will be a special door prize for some lucky winner at this program. Pajama Party Story Time will be held in the library's community room. This is a special Family Night Program, a chance to get out of the house for an evening of FREE entertainment.

Valentine Crafts

Join us at the library on Tuesday February 7, 2012 at 7pm for a Valentine Crafts program. This is FREE and open to kids and adults of all ages. So grab a friend or loved one and come to library for a fun evening of crafting and socialization.

American Girl Tea

The Oxford Memorial Library would like to invite all girls (and their moms & grandmas) to bring their American Girl Dolls or their favorite dolls to a special American Girl Tea on Saturday, February 4th. The Tea will be held in the library's community room from 11:00am - 1:00pm. There will be refreshments, games and crafts reflecting the various time periods of the American Doll series. This will be a really special time for moms and daughters to share together.
