Be sure and watch for the return of a very special story time. Perhaps it will be in March? Keep checking back here for updates. You won't want to miss it. Are you curious yet? Well, here it is... Diesel Dan is returning to the Oxford Memorial Library and bringing with him his ever popular Dragon program. This is a great way to celebrate the Chinese New Year, The Year of the Dragon. This promises to be a fun evening for the entire family. Don't miss it!

Then, on Thursday April 19th at 7:00pm the Oxford Memorial Library is please to welcome back William McManus, a.k.a. William the Crusader, Knight in Shining Armor. This is a fantastic program for all ages. You will see a real knight in full armor. This is a very hands-on program. You will get to see and feel armor, chain mail, and weaponry from that period. William is VERY knowledgeable about everything regarding being a knight. In the past program he would choose a child to dress in full armor; we have not heard whether or not he will do that again this time (we are hoping). This is a program not to be missed.

Pajama Party Story Time

The Oxford Memorial Library has a really fun-filled Pajama Party Story Time planned for Thursday February 23rd at 7:00pm. Wear your jammies and a nice warm robe and be sure to bring your favorite teddy or stuffed critter. There will be a special door prize for some lucky winner at this program. Pajama Party Story Time will be held in the library's community room.

Valentine Crafts

Join us at the library on Tuesday February 7, 2012 at 7pm for a Valentine Crafts program. This is FREE and open to kids and adults of all ages. So grab a friend or loved one and come to library for a fun evening of crafting and socialization.

American Girl Tea

The Oxford Memorial Library would like to invite all girls (and their moms & grandmas) to bring their American Girl Dolls or their favorite dolls to a special American Girl Tea on Saturday, February 4th. The Tea will be held in the library's community room from 11:00am - 1:00pm. There will be refreshments, games and crafts reflecting the various time periods of the American Doll series. This will be a really special time for moms and daughters to share together.

Library Artifacts On Display

The Oxford Memorial Library is currently featuring a display of artifacts that have been found during recent construction at our library. While working on Phase 4a of our construction project, Wakeman Construction discovered some interesting artifacts in both the basement and attic areas. We are excited to share some of these items with our patrons. Some of the items found include; an old carpenter's level, shoes, medicine and potion bottles, books and tools. One of the most interesting items found is an admission ticket to a Thanksgiving Dinner and Matinee at the Citizen's Opera House, Oxford, NY. The dinner took place on Thursday November 26, 1891 and was served from Noon - 8pm. A full menu is found on the back of the ticket. Please stop by and take a peek into our history. Get Your Overdue Fines Waived!

Now might be a good time to do some closet cleaning and hunt for those lost and overdue library books. You can get your fines waived and do some good at the same time. The Oxford Memorial Library is waiving all fines on library materials that come back between Monday January 23rd and Saturday February 4th providing you bring a non-perishable food item for each overdue item you return. Items with fines that are returned in the book drop will not qualify nor will any overdue items that are returned without the non-perishable food item. The Oxford Memorial Library is hoping to get many of our long overdue and lost library books back and help the local Food Pantry at the same time. This is a great way to clear your library record and help those in the community that are in need this winter. For more information call the library at 843-6146. 4-H Fun Days at the Oxford Library

Join Chenango County 4-H on January 19th from 3pm-5pm at the Oxford Memorial Library for FREE, hands-on activities. The program is open to all Chenango County youth ages 5-19. This will be a fun-filled learning environment for after school. We will have lots of fun and exciting activities with every child completing take home projects. Scrapbooking Workshop

Have you made a resolution to be more creative in the new year? If so, we have just the program for you. Sign up today for a Scrapbooking Workshop, presented by Kristina Livingstone. The workshop takes place this Saturday January 14th from 10am-Noon in the Community/Youth Services Room. The cost is $18.00, to cover cost of supplies, and sign-up is requested. Library Gets Decked Out For The Holidays

Once again the Oxford Garden Club has used its many talents to make the Oxford Memorial Library sparkle for the Christmas season. The garland, angels, nutcrackers, baubles and bows add to the festive atmosphere of the library. Many surprises await in every nook and cranny of our grand historic building. Be sure to stop by and enjoy the ambiance. Perhaps grab a book or magazine and sit for a while. We would love to see you. Polar Express At The OML Was A Huge Hit!

The Oxford Memorial Library welcomed more than 60 passengers for a trip to the North Pole on the Polar Express. Bill Brower, a.k.a. Mr. Conductor, once again, brought the classic childrens' book, The Polar Express, by Chris Van Allsburg, to life for passengers of all ages. Following the ride, passengers were surprised by a special guest, SANTA! There was a collective gasp from children and adults when Santa made his entrance. Every child had an opportunity to sit on Santa's lap and give him some, in-person, requests for Christmas morning. Every child received a present (book), a candy cane, and a bell. Passengers were also treated to some hot cocoa and cookies for snack. It was a great evening. Thank you to all who attended! We wish you a Merry Christmas and a very Happy and Blessed New Year! Preschool Story Time

The Oxford Memorial Library is pleased to announce an exciting new fun-filled story time beginning on Wednesday, November 16th at 10:00am in the new library community/ youth services room. This story time is geared for preschoolers and toddlers. There will be stories, action rhymes, finger plays and activities. This is a great chance for moms, grandmas, or caregivers to get the little ones out of the house for a while and have some interaction wth other young children as well as a chance for grown-ups to meet and make new friends. What's Where? or Where's What?, no matter what you call it, it means that there is a fun contest taking place at the Oxford Memorial Library during the month of October. Local, award-winning, childrens' author/illustrator, Suzanne Bloom, visited the library on October 6th to promote her newest book, Feeding Friendsies. The program was a huge hit with children of all ages, many even went home with personalized, autographed copies of some of Suzanne's books. If you missed this program don't despair, Suzanne has helped the library put together a special, fun for all ages, scavenger hunt contest. Everyone is invited to stop by the library and pick up an entry page and check out the display case, featuring items found in many of Suzanne's books. Your job is to match up what item is found in what book (hint: some make an appearance in more than one, and, yes, we do have books on display for searching), enter the name of the item next to the correct book on the entry form, and return the form to the library by NOVEMBER 14th. We will award prizes for entries with the most correct. A child and teen winner will be chosen. Call the library at 843-6146 for further information.

Teen Room

Phase II construction, the new Teen Room, just keeps getting better. The collection continues to grow constantly. Just a reminder.. We are always looking for suggestions of titles, authors, and series to purchase for the collection. Just let the desk staff know what you want and we will see what we can do. As in life, there are no guarantees, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Come on by and check it out.
